Long Journey Home

In 2023, we are planning a new mural that will feature Clint Howard. Make plans now to join us Labor Day weekend to celebrate Johnson County’s heritage arts and music.

Friday, September 1
Buskin’ on Main  6-9pm 
A showcase of local and regional acoustic talent playing up and down Main Street, Mountain City.  Good friends, good music, and good eatin’.

Saturday, September 2
Musical Heritage Homecoming Tour

Mural Unveiling: Acres of Stories and Songs The JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians) Band and the Long Journey Home House Band will share the stage for the unveiling of the new mural in honor of Clint Howard.
Clarence “Tom” Ashley Homeplace
Hear the music of Clarence “Tom” Ashley performed by Kenny Price and Jerry Moses.
Clint and Clarence Howard Farm Jack Proffitt and Friends will perform at Clint’s homeplace, where Doc Watson’s first album was recorded.
My Home in the Mountains  The Price Family and Friends will perform from the porch of the Fred Price homeplace. Old-fashioned soup beans and cornbread will be served from the kitchen.

Sunday, September 3    2 – 4:30pm
*Sunday Singing at Heritage Hall Theatre
Hear old-time gospel music performed by the Price Family, the Potter Family, and Narrow Road. This event traditionally includes a jam session ending with the singing of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken?”

Maps to all sites will be available at the Johnson County Center for the Arts at 127 College Street, Mountain City, TN and Johnson County Welcome Center.  All events are free to the public.  We look forward to seeing you!

Between now and Labor Day weekend, you can visit the Musical Heritage Mural mile in downtown Mountain City or watch these virtual segments from the last couple of years.
